Pluto Mars Opposition: Rage, Power, and the Boiling Point
So, on April 25–27, Pluto-Mars opposition is going to bring up some heat. Pluto-Mars has been connected to violent incidents, conflict, accidents, storms, intense rage, protests, and vandalism. These are two planets coming together that represent rage in the deep underbelly of our conscious and subconscious. This reaction brings strenuous parts of our past to a boil and throws them at our present with indignant rage.
This transit will not affect everyone with such intensity. However, we are all connected, so this fever will be felt in the air. Those who will feel this the most are those who have planets or rising signs in the fixed signs of Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio, and Taurus within 1 to 6 degrees.
So to break it down: Mars in Leo will be opposite Pluto in Aquarius. This aspect will also create a T-square with the Sun in Taurus. Neptune in Aries will trine Mars and sextile Pluto, and Mercury in Aries will make a loose trine to Mars and sextile Pluto. So what does this mean?
Mars is the planet of war. It represents the part of us that wants to take action, fight, and go after what it wants. It’s not a planet that cares about logic or compromise. Mars is that heated, primal part of ourselves that is turned on by adrenaline. Mars’ goal, in the purest sense, is to win. In the sign of Leo, these urges are ignited by ego and a sense of one’s importance. Actions are made to glorify one’s self and their goals, and because Leo is a fixed sign, these goals stubbornly will not budge or waver. Leo also is a sign that stands for kings and leaders, and fitting, our own president of the USA has his Mars in Leo. Mars also rules weapons, war, anger, muscles, violence, inflammation, and the male genitalia.
Pluto is a complicated planet. But to simplify, it is a planet that presents a trauma that was inflicted, and this triggers a fear for survival. This trauma can be generational or personal, and it is deeply subconscious. When triggered, it brings up the need to control, for if one is in control, they can protect their own survival—or they give away their power. But because it is so deeply subconscious, this easily gets out of control. Pluto intensifies everything it touches; it manipulates or pushes its control by force or psychological means. It is like an abused animal who will stop at nothing to protect itself when it misinterprets your petting hand for a threatening fist. Since Pluto is a slow-moving planet, it has a generational effect. It has been linked to tyrants, fascism, abuse in relationships, transformation, and psychology. With Pluto in Aquarius, we are dealing with trauma inflicted on the people. Aquarius is a sign that is all about building society in a way that breaks away from constructs that limit and are outdated. Aquarius has high hopes, but the sign can be idealistic and intensely radical at times. Aquarius is also a fixed sign, so it doesn’t want to budge from its views either.
So together, these planets pack a punch. Because they are forming an opposition, it shows two sides fighting, with very different views, both ramped up and both unwilling to back down. With the Sun T-square in Taurus, it seems to me that political disagreements can be centered around money and how it's used by those in power. With Neptune aspecting, it could create a feeling that one’s actions are glorified, or they are not fully seeing or cognizant of their actions. It can also bring up topics of faith or religion. On a better note, it could bring empathy to one side—so here’s hoping.
Mars is in shadow, so themes we experienced from Nov 14–17 of 2024 may come up again. During this time, Trump proposed plans to have Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy lead a newly created Department of Government Efficiency. During this time, Trump also announced several other cabinet members that brought up controversy.
So I think protests or forceful actions may happen—possibly in connection with this—especially with Mercury in Aries in the mix. This transit also has a lot of connection to Trump, as his natal Pluto is in aspect to Mars and Pluto.
On a personal level, those affected by this transit may feel anxious or irritable. Something might trigger you, making you more reactive than usual. Tension from the past could bubble up to the surface. You may be the one who sees red and reacts impulsively—or you might find that you are on the receiving end. Just know this isn’t a battle you can win. Just walk away. If you are the one agitated, take a moment to breathe slowly and bring yourself into the present, because your reactions may be rooted in something deeper. Be cautious in traffic—this isn’t the time to drive recklessly (not that it ever is). And maybe rethink that urge to honk if it’s not really necessary.
On a positive note, this transit can create an impulse to leave an unhealthy situation, confront anger issues you may have, and start a path to healing.
On April 27, we will have a New Moon in Taurus. Mars will be moving away from Pluto, but still only a degree apart, so it will still be felt—but not as intensely. New Moons are about new beginnings, so something that occurred during the Mars-Pluto transit may initiate or bring about something new. Trump’s natal Pluto is square this New Moon and trine Mercury in his 9th house, so there could be developments happening regarding foreign affairs and religion where power and control are involved.
On a personal level, Taurus New Moons can bring an opportunity for new beginnings and grounding in our own bodies. The effects of the Mars-Pluto opposition could stir up some tension. This discomfort may highlight the need for calm, comfort, physical security, and mental clarity. Taurus is a sign that loves routine—and routine is something our body needs for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
So there’s the astro news. I hope I have not instilled fear in you. Life is still beautiful—it’s also very real and full of many different sides.
